Helena Rubinstein, born in 1872 in Krakow, was a pioneering self-made woman who built a global beauty empire from scratch. Driven by hard work and a sharp business sense, she introduced scientific rigor to cosmetics and was an early marketing innovator, using celebrities to promote her products. She created the first skin cream using lanolin from sheep’s wool in Australia and founded beauty institutes in major cities like Paris and New York.
She was famous for dispensing beauty tips, teaching women the importance of taking care of their bodies for beautiful skin. From her perspective, she gave women the power to manage and enhance their beauty using her cosmetics. She encouraged them to take care of themselves with a quote that has gone down in history: "There are no ugly women, only lazy women," she would say. Her clients could never get enough of her advice and tips for making their skincare routine effective. She thus became a true beauty guru.
Her legacy continues to influence modern beauty standards and science-driven skincare.
