Miguel Cruz (1944-1989). Cuban designer. Though Cruz made his name in Italy, he was born in Cuba and began his career studying fashion in Paris at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. After finishing his studies he worked at both Castillo and Balenciaga, and in 1963 moved to Italy to work as a freelance designer for several Italian companies. He eventually settled in Rome where he launched his own lines of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear. Cruz innovatively employed leather, suede and knitwear in his distinctive vision of luxury leisure apparel for a moneyed international set.
