A pair of dolls “Emelya and the Pike”

Russia 1970, material rubber / plasric, cm 17
Rooted in the heart of Russian folklore, this charming pair of vintage dolls brings to life the timeless tale of Emelya and the Pike.
Emelya the Simpleton (Russian: Емеля-дурак) or At the Pike's Behest (Russian: По щучьему веленью) is a Russian folktale (Russian: сказка, romanized: skazka). Alexander Afanasyev included the story in his collection Narodnye russkie skazki published in the mid-19th century.
"At the Behest of the Pike" is a popular Russian folktale about a lazy peasant named Emelya who catches a magical pike. The pike grants his wishes in exchange for its freedom, allowing him to magically perform tasks without effort, like having his axe chop wood or his stove transport him. The story ultimately leads to Emelya marrying the tsar's daughter, demonstrating how a simple, lazy but kind-hearted character can succeed through luck.
