Vintage Moravian Doll

Czechoslovakia 1960-70, brand Lidova Tvorba, material plastic, cm 33
This vintage 1960s–70s doll, crafted by the Czechoslovakian cooperative Lidová Tvorba Uherský Brod, beautifully represents the artistry of traditional Moravian-Slovak folk culture. The doll wears an authentic kroj (folk costume) from the Moravian town of Vlčnov, Czech Republic, and features sleeping eyes that open and close — a delicate touch typical of mid-century European craftsmanship.
Founded in 1936, Lidová Tvorba Uherský Brod quickly gained recognition for its handmade dolls in traditional dress. Within just two years, the cooperative received a Gold Medal at the Moravian-Slovak Folk Costume Exhibition in Uherské Hradiště and a Silver Medal at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition. By 1940, its creations were being showcased internationally, from New York to Copenhagen, admired for their precision, authenticity, and artistic value.
This doll stands as a piece of cultural history — a fine example of how folk art and craftsmanship merged to preserve Moravian identity through delicate, handmade creations that continue to enchant collectors today.
