Eclisse lamp by Artemide
Italy 1970, brand Artemide , material metal, cm 11x16
In 1965, Italian designer Vico Magistretti created what would become one of the most recognizable icons of modern lighting: the Eclisse Table Lamp, produced by Artemide.
A true embodiment of the Italian design ethos, Eclisse captures the perfect balance between form and function, aesthetics and purpose.
Its genius lies in its simplicity: a small, spherical lamp whose rotating inner shade allows the user to “eclipse” the light, modulating its intensity like a celestial event. With this poetic yet practical gesture, Magistretti transformed a utilitarian object into a sculptural statement.
Eclisse is more than a lamp; it’s a symbol of 1960s avant-garde design, where experimentation met elegance. Its timeless shape and bold character have earned it a place in the permanent collections of leading museums, including the MoMA in New York and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
