Mindbenders - set of 3

England 1974, brand Loncraine Broxton England, material acrylic, cm 4×4×4

In 1974, during the UK’s “three-day week” blackouts, Loncraine Broxton England turned scarcity into creativity.
With industries limited to three days of electricity, LB designed a series of dexterity puzzles encased in transparent plastic cubes, sold for just one pound.
Built on a shoestring budget using card, bra hooks, ball bearings, and gelatin capsules, these puzzles captured the public’s imagination.
Enthusiastic demand led to improved designs with injection-molded parts, and soon Mindbenders were available in black, chrome, or colorful editions.
Eye-catching store displays helped make them a gift favorite during tough economic times.
Millions sold over the next two decades, cementing their status as design icons.
Today, these sets of three puzzles remain collectible treasures for lovers of vintage toys.
Part toy, part challenge, part piece of 1970s British ingenuity.
