Tesla 308U Talisman

Cecoslovacchia 1953-58, brand Tesla, material bakelite, cm 30x19x15

Inspired by the streamlined designs of Raymond Loewy and American motoring modernism this is the Tesla Talisman 308U.
Designed by Igor Didov for the Czech state manufacturer Tesla it was not just futuristic in appearance but also innovative within (technical stuff to do with valves). Manufactured from 1953 to 1958, the radio was made in three colors, brown, black and red.
This model was listed among the 36 best radios in history for its aesthetics, which was defined as "probably the most elegant of all" by David Attwood in his book "Radio Design-Icons". It is also part of the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The ELEKTRA company was founded in Czechoslovakia in 1921 with entirely national capital. From 1932 to 1945, it was owned by Philips. In
1946, the name was changed to TESLA (a tribute to Nikola Tesla, the visionary Serbian engineer and pioneer of electromagnetism known for his fundamental contributions to alternating current and his eccentric personality).
Production focused on light bulbs, vacuum tubes, electronic components, radio receivers, military technology, and more.
Tesla developed a network of radio and television transmitters that broadcast throughout the former Czechoslovakia and the countries of the former Soviet Union, Egypt, Algeria, Yemen, and Syria.
After an economic crisis caused by the split of the former Czechoslovakia, Tesla specialized in military production, telecommunications, water treatment, solar and industrial technologies.
The Talisman 308U was the most popular aircraft in many Eastern regions due to its affordability, reliability and design.
