Set of four tippe top

Czechoslovakia 1970-80, material wood, cm diameter 3

Set of four wooden tippe top in different colors.
A tippe top is a kind of top that when spun, will spontaneously invert itself to spin on its narrow stem. It was invented by a German nurse, Helene Sperl in 1898.
The tip-top spinner's flip is caused by a sufficiently high angular launch velocity to trigger the energy that triggers the flip (for those interested in physics, the phenomenon is related to the Jellet integral).

The interest in the Tip-Top spinner, now available in toy stores, lies in the fact that its behavior appears, at first glance, to violate the laws of mechanics. After being "spinned" into rapid rotation in its equilibrium configuration at rest (with the shank facing up), the spinner progressively lowers its axis until the shank begins to slide on the support surface; after which, the spinner stands upright on the shank and continues to rotate steadily in that configuration.
