It’s impossible not to think of the origins. Part of the Leica factories dismantled and shipped east as reparations… and from that, the FED-1 was born. Heavy, honest engineering. A shutter that still fires seventy years later, defying time with a metallic wink.
The FED story begins even earlier, in the strange and idealistic world of the Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinski Commune—a trade school turned factory, guided by educator Anton Makarenko before the NKVD took control in 1934. By 1955, roughly 700,000 “Fedkas” had rolled off its lines, each a small piece of Soviet industrial history.
